By Graeme Esau

The 93rd Grey Cup turned out to be one of the most exciting Grey Cups in history. A sell-out crowd of 59,157 gathered at BC Place in Vancouver to witness the Edmonton Eskimos meet the Montreal Alouettes in the Grey Cup for the third time in four years, and the eleventh time in history – a professional sports record.

Ricky Ray, who was replaced in both of the previous playoff games by Jason Maas, got the start for the Eskimos. Ray had been under scrutiny for not throwing a touchdown pass in seven games, and that Maas had directed both Edmonton playoff wins. Nevertheless, Ray got the nod and went 35 of 45 passes for 359 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions to win the Grey Cup MVP.
