By Alison Fraser A tentative peace deal has been reached between the government of Uganda and the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) that could end the brutal war that has raged for more than 20 years. If the peace deal is secured it will end one of Africa’s longest-running conflicts. It is estimated that over 12 000 people have been killed in the fighting, and that more than two million citizens have been forced to flee their homes. Even more shocking is that the number of child abductions that have taken place during the conflict has reached over 66 000.

The Breakdown: In 1977, Dr. Gunther von Hagens invented Plastination, a process that halts the decay of human bodies by replacing fats and liquids with a polymer solution, to enhance the study and understanding of anatomy. Over a decade ago, the first public exhibition opened in Japan, and the world was introduced to Plastinates: bodies that had gone through the Plastination process. Today, Body Worlds is in its third tour of duty, and is still met with controversy and critical acclaim.

By The Protector
Michael Wallbank
Every year is marked by at least one collective cultural experience; most recently is Youtube, the popular movie-posting site. Before that, Myspace. And two years ago it was the Muay Thai action adrenaline blast Ong-Bak.
Ong-Bak’s mix of bone-crushing hits and ridiculous stunts popularized it globally, exposing the world to a nearly untapped film source: Thailand. Tony Jaa, star of Ong Bak, recently returned in the bigger, faster, and more action-packed fist-flick The Protector. If you can’t wait for another of Jaa’s trademark knee and elbow combinations, then The Protector is right for you. If you’re looking for any semblance of story or character, this probably isn’t your slugfest. Instead keep an eye out for Jet Li’s Fearless in theaters September 22nd.

By Kenji Skulstad The Roots – Game Theory
Def-Jam Recordings
The Roots are on a new sub-label, and back up the switch in fighting form with Game Theory. Black Thought is in tip-top lyrical form, and ?uestlove remains the ever wonderful ?uestlove, from beats to production. This album is not as much a history lesson as past albums, but presents the band’s view on what hip-hop should be today. It’s impossible not to bob your head to tracks like the title track, “Game Theory,” and the first single, “Don’t Feel Right.” There’s a sweet riff on “In the Music,” and “Can’t Stop This” has a peaceful soul feel. The content is explicit, so it may not be for everyone, but The Roots are a band you need to know intimately to be a fan of hip-hop.

By “What Lewis does in Till We Have Faces, is reclaim a pagan myth, the story of Cupid and Psyche. He baptizes it in the tradition of Christian authors before him, like Basil the Great did with Hercules. The pagans had the wisdom to ask questions about humanity, and the Christians bring their style and insight to stories familiar to the ‘vulgar masses.’ This is Lewis’ best book of fiction.”

By Melanie Spaulding 1. “Always You” - Amber Pacific
This one is fun; it makes me want to move.
2. “Apologies” - Dropping Daylight
Dropping Daylight’s sound is amazing; this is my favorite of theirs.
3. “Lights of Reedsport” - Falling Up
These guys are high school friends and I love their sound. There is so much energy.
4. “Day Old Hate” - City and Colour
I could listen to Dallas Green sing all day long! His voice is so smooth and it sounds like it takes no effort whatsoever.

By Graeme Esau Last Thursday night, 150 fans witnessed Trinity Western University’s first annual Can-Am soccer game. Even though both Canada and the U.S. are not traditionally soccer hot spots, people still came out in droves to support their respective nations.
Unlike the players from its hockey counterpart, the players in the Can-Am soccer game are actually meant to be good athletes. The game also differs in that there are guys and girls on both sides and other nationalities can play on either team. Director of Rec Services Dale Baumgartner, who organized the event, hopes that it will continue to grow in popularity and someday switch venues from the south field to the prestigious north field.

By Jon Adams For many Canadians, hockey is a way of life. It runs through their veins, pulses in their hearts, and pours out through their personalities. For years, hockey has been a significant part of the Trinity Western University experience. With two teams, one a recreation squad and the other a competitive inter-collegiate team, hockey is healthy at TWU and is at the forefront of what Recreation Services offers students.
This year, the Titans, a men’s inter-collegiate hockey team, are facing funding problems that could put the existence of the team in jeopardy. It may cause the team to fold, leaving several young men without a place to play the game they love.
