Second year student Kenji Skulstad was elected as next year’s Trinity Western University Student Association Vice President of Academics early last week, replacing Iain Cook.
Cook had originally campaigned unopposed for the position during last month’s executive elections and won the spot with 664 votes. Two weeks after being voted in, however, Cook resigned due to the fact that he has enough credits to graduate this spring.
“It just doesn’t make sense to run on TWUSA,” he said, but added that stepping down from the position was a hard decision.

The deadlines for elected and appointed Trinity Western University Student Association positions have come and gone, and still many spots have no applicants. Of the nine student-elected representative positions, only three representatives were elected to be a part of next year’s TWUSA.
TWUSA extended the application deadline further to March 16 and has actively advertised the open spots, speaking with students in the cafeteria, talking at dorm meetings, and posting many brightly-coloured posters.
Next year’s Executive Vice President Kerala Levitt believes the lack of interest is due to the fact that TWUSA plays more of a behind-the-scenes role on campus than other TWU programs, such as Student Life.

At approximately 3 a.m. on March 11, the girls of South Fraser were awakened by an unidentified, middle-aged man yelling and banging on the first floor windows. The Abbotsford native was visibly bleeding from his head and attempting to get into the building. Jeannie Pfund of Fraser 2G was the first to call Security to report the incident.
“I could hear him saying, ‘I crashed my van on the highway, I need help, let me inside,’” Pfund said. Security guard Angel Ross was in the security hut when she got the first call for help from Pfund. She immediately radioed the security guard on patrol to check the situation. Minutes before she received the call, Ross noticed a police car go “zipping past” and come to a stop just down the freeway.

Overpass opened both ways
It was a special moment for fourth year student Connor McRae and third year student Mark Wall on March 12, as they drove south across the Glover Rd. overpass outside of Trinity Western University.
After months of construction and single-lane traffic across the overpass, the roommates were the first people to travel the newly restored, two-lane bridge.
“We were honoured,” McRae said jokingly. “It was like we were paving the way, pun intended.”

As the 2006-2007 school year draws to a close, Trinity Western University is working to formulate the best response to the challenges posed by the recent decline in enrolment. This year marked a notable decrease in undergraduate enrolment, as the 2005 total of 2,753 students dropped to 2,561 this year.
A decline of about 200 students may not spell disaster for larger universities, but for TWU, 200 fewer students is a significant seven per cent decrease.
According to Enrolment Management coordinator Corwin Koch, “We’ve got a smaller student body than we had four years ago.” However, Koch noted that TWU’s enrolment decrease is “not too far off from what the industry in general has been experiencing.”
