TWU alumni participates in internship for developing nations
In 11, Issue 1, News, Volume 12 @ 11:55 PM

By Lauren Thompson

Every year, 1.1 billion people face the daily reality of life without clean, safe water. According to the World Health Organization, 1.8 million people die every year from diarrhoeal diseases, which are transmitted through contaminated water sources. 90 per cent of these victims are under the age of five.

To combat these startling statistics, TWU alumni Jeff Town is taking action by participating in a six month internship installing water filters in developing nations.

…The English department hosted International Conference

More than 100 scholars from over 46 institutions of higher learning gathered together on Trinity Western University’s campus to attend the 2007 Conference on Christianity and Literature. Put on by TWU’s department of English and entitled “Through a Glass Darkly: Suffering, the Sacred and the Sublime,” the conference included panels, keynote speakers and discussions that investigated how themes of suffering are seen in literature, art and stage and what contemporary society might learn from these works today.

New housing director oversees residence changes
In 11, Issue 1, News, Volume 12 @ 11:11 PM

By Todd Foley

After last year’s significant drop in students living on campus, the majority of resident housing is now full. In addition, the housing department has upgraded facilities and extended visiting hours.

The first major change in on-campus housing is the availability of economy-price housing for female residents, who make up roughly 58 per cent of Trinity Western University’s student population. Starting this year, female students are occupying over half of Douglas Hall, which houses economy-size dorms.

To meet last year’s high demand for upperclassmen housing, the Fraser Hall suites were renovated into apartments, complete with new carpeting, paint and appliances.
