Brett Favre, the ultimate warrior, has dazzled us with his supreme skill and toughness for 17 seasons, but now the 38-year-old quarterback has decided to retire rather than suit up for another season with the Green Bay Packers. “I know I can still play”, said a teary-eyed Favre in a press conference, “but it’s like I told my wife, I’m just tired mentally.”

The native of Gulfport, Mississippi recently led the Packers to a 13-3 record before the team bowed out to the eventual Super Bowl champion New York Giants in the National Football Conference title game. During the course of this past season, he threw for 4,155 yards and 28 touchdowns with only 15 interceptions. For his efforts, the hall of fame bound Favre was named to his ninth Pro Bowl. The 2007 season also saw Favre post a career-best 66.5 completion percentage.

Over his illustrious career, Favre earned a reputation as being one of the toughest players to ever play in the NFL. Favre finishes his career with a streak of 253 consecutive regular-season starts or 275 consecutive starts including playoff games.
Originally drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in 1991, Favre led the Packers to a pair of Super Bowl titles in 1996 and 1997. The first of the two, played against the New England Patriots, was his first appearance in the big game. He was the league MVP three times, which came three years in a row (1995-1997). He retires with 5,377 career completions in 8,758 attempts for 61,655 yards, 442 touchdowns and 288 interceptions.

His career pass attempts (8,758), pass completions (5,377), passing touchdowns (442), passing interceptions (288), passing yards (61,655), and career wins as a starting quarterback (160), are all NFL records. It seems likely and very appropriate that Brett Favre will enter the Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, in his first year of eligibility.
