DISCLAIMER: For three years now, I have written for the News section of Mars’ Hill. And for three years, I have attempted the near-impossible by suppressing all my biases and opinions in the name of objective, impartial journalism. But as this is my last issue working with the News section, I have decided to hold back no longer. I’m American, and I’m proud. So here it is: my biased, no-holds-barred report of the 2008 Can-Am hockey game. Thanks for three great years, student body; keep making the news happen – Go America!

Last Thursday, the scales of hockey justice were tipped in favour of the ever-deserving American men’s hockey team. After 19 years of Can-Am hockey, the March 20 victory put the Americans on top, winning 10 of the 19 annual games played.
Though their fan base was at its smallest, the Yanks were louder than ever as fourth-year student Matt Keller scored the only goal of the game in the second period to secure the American shut-out. Perhaps most impressive was goalie Jon Harkness’ impeccable saves as the Canadian girls feebly attempted to retain their dignity.
There was little doubt on the American side that their valiant skaters would skunk the Canadian women – and they were not disappointed. The red and white tears of Canadian fans could barely be heard over the deafening American cheers when the final buzzer sounded.
Amidst the cries of victory and spontaneous outbursts of star-spangled pride, one thing was clear: it may be a Canadian game, but God really does bless America.

Now you go...
