Insider: grad art show
Fort Langley Centennial Museum will host “A Parade Marching Backwards In Time” March 31-April 30. The event is an exhibition of the senior art students of Trinity Western University.

Students in the senior class have been working very hard on this two-semester project that is meant to showcase their passions. “It provides experience for the real world, where artists have to find venues and places to display their work,” said Jill Macknee, coordinator of the showcase.
It is the mandate of the TWU art program to present important projects by a new generation of artists, and provide a platform for discussion, exhibition, promotion, and dialogue between society and the museum.
These artists are some of the most active and dynamic artists entering the workforce, and they are bringing forth their best work. “I am working with a painting medium as well as sculpture medium,” said Macknee. Although Macknee is choosing two forms of expression, others may opt for a singular.
“It’s great because I can use other class lessons and incorporate them into my artwork,” double-major Macknee professed.
There are eight students displaying their creativity; however, only seven are graduating students. Participating are: Dylan De Jong, Dezi De Ruiter, Nat Ferguson, Daniel Giesbrecht, Meghan Hitchman, Rachel Klassen, JoJo Wang, and Jill Macknee. This course is a requirement for any art major graduating from TWU, preferrably taken in the final year of studies.
The show is 100 percent a student effort. “We do all the planning, all the posters, coordination of the venue, fundraising, etc,” explained Macknee, complimenting her wonderful team for all their work. “[Our professor] is awesome, but she definitely gives us the reigns,” she continued.
“Come support us,” encouraged Macknee. This is the beginning of many of their careers, a time for each individual to experience a sample of the kind of event that could become quite familiar to them.
