Mumford & Sons – Sigh No More

(2010, Glassnote Records)

By Kirk Anderson
Arts & Culture,Volume 14 Issue 10

Grade: A

Mumford & Sons are a four piece indie-folk group based in London, UK. Their recently released album, Sigh No More, has recieved heaps of airtime on the Peak and plenty of attention on music blogs. The album has song after song that folk lovers will enjoy wholeheartedly. Marcus Mumford, the lead singer, has a voice that is filled with so much passion that when he sings, you can’t help but pay attention.

Once listening, you can’t really do anything else; you might get distracted from important things in your life because of these songs. The talent does not end with the vocals. The instruments are just as good. Songs like “The Cave” or “Little Lion Man” will jump straight into your most played lists on iTunes.

Having seen them twice in London, Mumford & Sons are impressive live and their music accessible to new listeners. They stray away from backing tracks, and instead show off their true musicianship, playing everything as you hear it. The band is due to play at Sasquatch Festival in Washington, so if you happen to have the chance to go down, make sure to see these boys.

  1. These guys are fantastic… but didn’t this album get reviewed in Mars Hill just a few issues ago?

In Kirk’s defense, the album wasn’t available in Canada when he first reviewed it… nice remix though.
