The Men Who Stare at Goats

You walk away from The Men Who Stare at Goats feeling like there was absolutely no point to what you just saw. The plot involves an oversimplified and poorly depicted war in Iraq, an irrational journalist named Bob Wilton, Jedi warriors without powers, sand, drugs and goats.

Wilton (Ewan McGregor) is a reporter who follows a man claiming to be a psychic warrior, hoping it will give him inspiration. No person in their right mind would go to the lengths he did, leaving the viewers questioning the entire plot line.

In the end, he decides to become a Jedi and continue the tradition of fighting with the mind. This is odd considering he spends most of the movie trying to convince people that the Jedi are just men that do drugs and believe in powers that they do not actually possess.

The movie is also inconsistent with its themes, such as the existence of a higher power. Sometimes the characters believe that there is a power in control of the universe and other times everything is a result of mere coincidence. The film does have some comic value, but if you have seen the trailer, you have already seen the best part.

Unless you are looking for a brainless, ridiculous, rainy-day activity, this film will doubtlessly leave you unsatisfied.
