Vampire Weekend: Contra
Grade: B+
Two years after releasing their self-titled debut album, Vampire Weekend returns with their sophomore effort, Contra. Vampire Weekend’s sound has grown, but is still there with strong strands of African and Caribbean influences. The four Columbia preppies bring in a more electronic sound to some of their songs, combining for a flavourful sound.
Standout tracks include the album’s first single ‘Horchata,’ as well as ‘White Sky’ and ‘Giving up the Gun.’ Overall, the album is fluid and perfect for easy listening during dinner or a study session.
