[spaces] Literary Journal volume four is hot off the presses
Five editors, eleven months and 104 submissions later, another issue of [spaces] is on the market. The fourth volume of Trinity Western University’s annual literary journal contains original poetry, prose, non-fiction, and artwork done by TWU students and alumni.
For the first year ever, [spaces] is also featuring the work of three writers: a poem by established author Connie Braun, a poem by Professor Joe Weil, whose work has appeared in publications as the New York Times, and a poem by rising talent Micah Towery.
Another first for the publication is a scholarship offered by the English Department for [spaces] Editor-in-Chief to do the editorship as a directed study for upper level English credit. The scholarship will be offered again next year; interested applicants can contact the English Department for more information.
“It’s exciting to see the way the journal is growing,” says the current Managing Editor Natalie McNeill. “The quality of the writing is superb; I can see it becoming a fixture in Canada’s literary scene in years to come.”
[spaces] volume four is being sold at TWU’s bookstore for $6 and at www.twuspaces.com.
A sneak peak inside [spaces] volume 4:
Love Song
When we get married
we may not have flowers,
but after,
we will have books.
Our house may not be big,
our room may not be large,
but
come what may,
whether we have children
or not,
for both before,
and after
we will build many shelves
for wherever we live.
If we do not have children
we will borrow some.
They will believe
(our neighbours,
relatives,
and friends)
that we are doing a favour.
They will not know
it is the opposite.
We will take their children
to our house
and spoil them
with all the words they want.
They will go home
always hungry for more
until their parents indulge them.
I cannot wait until we grow old,
for then we will not have the endurance
to read alone.
We will sit in bed
long past midnight
reading
to each other.
