To Consider…

You’ve been studying for the past five hours. By studying, I mean you’ve stared at a blank word document for twenty minutes, clicked on Facebook, looked up the random guy/gal you met in the caf, clicked off Facebook, made yourself a “study snack,” sat back down at the blank word document and end in a panic attack because nothing is done. For those of you who are wondering my word count is currently 82. Writing papers will do that to you – make you freakishly aware of your word count at all times.

Now you are in a bad space of mind and the energy in your room no longer feels compatible with studying. There are two options in these moments: 1. Spend the 15 minutes it will take you to pack up from wherever you are and head to the library or 2. Have a dance party! (Only if you’re somewhere semi-private, no one wants to see you dance party in the atrium. Scratch that, everyone wants to see you dance party in the atrium.) Don’t have any dance party tunes? It ain’t no thang, I’m all over it. With this easy breezy dance party mix you should have your head boppin’ and your toes tappin’ and your sides groovin’ in no time. Who knows? It might even adequately prepare you for the next school dance! Ready, set, dance party!

  1. Wolf Like Me – TV on the Radio
It progresses nicely to pandemonium and all out body seizuring, then back down to slow singing. If this doesn’t immediately get you out of your study funk you should drop out of school right now because you’re hopeless.
  2. Dancing in the Moonlight – Toploader
This song owns all others when it comes to making you happy.
  3. You Can Do It – Ice Cube
99’ baby, you CAN do it.
  4. Saturday Night – Whigfield
Let this fun beat from Dance Mix 95’ take your homework woes away.
  5. Tony and the Beat – The Sounds
    Hey! Let’s kick it.
  6. Paper Planes – M.I.A.
Make the index finger, middle finger thumb gun for the chorus of this song. It adds, trust me.
  7. Tokyo Drift – Teriyaki Boyz
Their album is called Beef or Chicken?; a question we all struggle with at one time or another.
  8. Welcome 2 Da Backwudz – Da Backwudz
    GIA GIA.
  9. Music is My Hot Hot Sex – Cansei der Ser Sexy
Don’t worry, it’s not as scandalous as it sounds. But it is tres tres danceable.
  10. I Wish – Skee-Lo
    “I wish I was a little bit taller, I wish I was a baller, I wish I had a girl who looked good I would call her…” It’s almost a Christmas song.
  11. Love and Happiness – Al Green
Heck yes. Dance, smile, live, love. Thank you Mr. Green.

Note: “Dance, Dance,” “Shake Dat Ass,” and all Rhianna songs are absent from this list. It should stay that way.
