Yesterday NASA launched an orbiter to find out more about Mars. Lucky for the orbiter, It’s got seven months of floating through outer space before it gets to the red planet. We at the Hill, on the other hand, only have a few of weeks before impact.
This past week I’ve been moving along at a breakneck pace, but I’m quite enjoying the ride and look forward to sharing it with the rest of you. I went into the office a few days ago and sat crosslegged in the middle of the floor. Then I got up. I was whelmed.

I have also decided on our theme for the second issue. As it is Snider’s last year and as the search committee will be in their final stages of preparing a list of qualities that the new leader should possess, I think that we should have a major theme of leadership. This will, of course, cover the whole gamut, from student leadership to what makes the perfect Christian leader, to Christ’s leadership to academic leadership and, specifically, what sort of leadership Trinity needs as we enter into the next phase of our growth. I want to poll a large number of students and ask them what they think the next President should be like.

I’ve been doing some thinking about the first issue (that comes out September 21) and I really want to go with a birth/transition type theme. Next year is going to be a major one for Trinity, with Snider leaving, new marketing people starting new marketing strategies (that will see Trinity much more involved with the community), some of our best profs leaving, the new M.A. starting up, the chapel being taken down, etc.

I know that a lot of you have been asking about the job - just what does it mean to be a section editor? What are the responsibilities, the rewards, the challenges and the excitements? This is a huge question, and can really only be answered by being thrown into the position and learning as you go. However, the job can broadly be defined as having three parts: editing articles, managing people, and generating ideas.
