After the Fraser Health Authority decided we had too much arsenic in our water, Trinity Western University was forced to give students as much clean, tasty water as they could handle. I moved off campus this year, so I was kind of miffed that I missed my chance to drink water at TWU that didn’t taste like goose poop.

When Trinity Western University Theatre department chair Angela Konrad first read the script for Grace, now playing at Pacific Theatre in Vancouver, she knew she wanted to direct it.
“I realized it is my favourite sort of play to see as a patron because it grapples with some complex and difficult questions in a way that is incredibly thought-provoking, but I had never directed a play like this,” said Konrad. “I felt I needed to face that inconsistency.”
At the core of Grace is a question posed by playwright Craig Wright: “If the best thing that ever happened to you is the worst thing to happen to someone else, is that grace?”

Over the course of the four years that I have graced this lovely campus, there has been a wide range of events, occurrences, and people in and around the Trinity Western University bubble. As it is now time for me to leave, I feel that the greatest and most ridiculous of these events and people should receive an award equally as great and ridiculous: the gameball. So without further ado, here are my TWU experience gameball nominations.

I have to admit, when I put in At Sea by Alli Rogers, I immediately noticed the high quality of the live recordings. Perhaps the dry, clean, simple sound is easier to get from a lone voice and guitar than full rock-band, but it makes this live set enjoyable from the first listen.
Her smooth and savoury voice is at its best during the chorus of “For the Morning,” laying down a hook as delicious as her homemade cookies – which I’ve heard are so good they could melt your face off. The play of tension and spinning release makes this my favourite track on the album.

Jars of Clay - “Mirrors and Smoke”
Good Monsters was a return to the classic Jars sound and “Mirrors and Smoke” features Leigh Nash of Sixpence (and yes, I like Sixpence because of “Kiss Me”), so this song is subsequently really awesome.
The White Stripes - “Ball and Biscuit”
This is such an angry and vengeful song that if I didn’t put it on my list I’d be paranoid about Jack White coming after me with a pointy guitar.
Weezer - “Island in the Sun”
From Weezer’s third album, this song makes you want to spontaneously go on a holiday and forget about all your responsibilities. It’s a perfect song for students.

On March 15, fifty students, guests, and a handful of professors made their way towards Block Hall for the much anticipated presentation of Trinity’s Philosophy Society: a joint lecture by Doctors Archie Spenser and Chris Morrissey titled “Reconsidering the Analogy of Being: An Ecumenical Dialogue.”
Living up to the weighty title, Acts Seminary professor Archie J. Spenser took the floor first, and proceeded to deliver a powerfully convincing support of Karl Barth’s frequently misunderstood rejection of the ontological predication of God. This rather thick topic was delivered with Spenser’s usual auditory gusto, unapologetically denying the traditionally Thomistic interpretation of the analogy of being. Barth based this rejection on his conviction that Catholic Thomism contained deeply problematic philosophical presuppositions, as well as serious theological limitations, such as the placement of the Catholic definition of causality at the core of Thomistic analogy.
