MONTREAL (CUP) With the 2010 Vancouver Olympics rapidly approaching, Aboriginal groups across Canada are protesting that the events will be held on unceded Salish, St’at’imc and Squamish territory.
The groups argue that the Olympics will wreak environmental and social destruction.
Activists Kanahus Pelkey and Dustin Johnson have embarked on a three-week speaking tour across the East Coast and Great Lakes entitled “No Olympics on Stolen Land.”
“By having the Olympics [outside Vancouver], it opens our land, our sacred sites, our medicine grounds,” Pelkey said.

MH: What has been the prettiest play you’ve ever seen first hand?
Andrew: Ronaldinho deeking two guys out. I saw it first hand. A little spinorama and missed the net, but it was amazing. The second best play was after the game when he was jumping out of a go-kart and ripping off his shirt and giving it to a kid.
MH: Gatorade or Powerade?
Andrew: Gatorade.
MH: Are you into any sports video games?
Andrew: FIFA 08 and MLB 08.

The 2007-2008 Spartans Men’s Basketball season has been one better forgotten than remembered for most, as it has brought disappointment after disappointment. From waiting until the second week of November for their first regular season win, to an overall dismal road record, to the firing of then head coach Stan Peters, the Spartans were dealt yet another tough shot last week. This time, it has proven to be the deathblow.
According to the CIS website, the complication arose when spring semester paper work was being processed at Trinity Western University’s Enrolment Services. Administration discovered that Spartans guard Lucas Goltz, who had transferred to TWU from Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario, had not fully satisfied the transfer requirements as are laid out by CIS.

The Trinity Western University Spartans Women’s Volleyball team was on the road over the weekend visiting the lowly Simon Fraser University Clan, and came up with two big, 3-0 wins.
Subsequently, SFU dropped their 17th and 18th games while the Spartans locked down the fifth seed in the Canada West Standings and put extra heat on the fourth placed University of Alberta who are now only two points ahead of the Spartans.

The Spartans Men’s Volleyball team was at home over the weekend and split two games with the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds. After suffering a tough 3-2 loss to the night earlier, the Spartans bounced back with a 3-2 win of their own. With the victory, the Spartans clinched the 2008 playoffs, and can now finish no worse than seventh place.

Having past the halfway point of the season, the battle for an National Hockey League playoff position begins in earnest. Only the Detroit Red Wings can rest easy, having a secure position 24 points ahead of their closest rivals, the Columbus Blue Jackets. Where as the Central Division of the Western Conference has a sure leader, the rest of the league is locked in a fight for each and every point- none more so than the Northwest Division, where a single loss will result in a drastic fall in the standings.

MH: As an athlete, who had the biggest influence on you growing up?
Jonathan: My dad. He put in endless hours to teach me the basics of my two sports, hockey and baseball.
MH: If you could have chosen any other sport to pursue and play at the university level, what would it have been?
Jonathan: I did have a scholarship for baseball in Chicago, but that fell through. If I had to pick another sport it would probably be golf.
MH: Who are the biggest fair-weather fans of any professional sports team?
