Partying is an extremely divisive issue at Trinity Western University. For some, the term “partying” is too vague - it expresses a negative connotation that shouldn’t accompany the term. Others feel that there is an unhealthy stigma associated with partying due to the atmosphere of secrecy often shrouding it. For this issue of Mars’ Hill, we want to pry open some of the different perspectives that people have towards partying, and promote dialogue regarding the realities of what happens on campus as well as off.

Community, that oft-neglected yet essential aspect of human existence. How many of us have wasted entire nights spending time with friends or roommates, only to realize that it wasn’t such a waste after all? It is worth considering the value of community, but before that, we should realize how we’ve lost it, as a culture and as a church.
The first place to start is the very foundation of our world: modernity. For all its benefits, it grossly misunderstands human nature, tending to depict people as “rights-bearers” who exist solely to live freely so long as their freedom doesn’t negatively affect others. Each man is, so they say, an island. We live in a world where each person fends for him or her self and is completely independent and self-sufficient.

The measure of a story is found in its journey. Where are you, the audience member, being taken, and why are you being taken there?
Jeffrey Hatcher’s Scotland Road is a captivating look at several distinctive journeys, all set in a single room. It begins on the fringes of four hazy characters and then spirals inward, offering glimpses of their true intentions and ulterior motives.
The play focuses on one desperate man and his unpredictable interactions with three mysterious women. The man, known as John, is on the verge of shattering. Obsessed with the disaster of the infamous Titanic, his life simply can not carry on until he obtains the answers he needs. Through any means necessary.

The average life expectancy for a federal minority government in Canada is 18 months. Prime Minister Stephen Harper first took office in January 2006, so the odds are an election is on its way. While there have been numerous opportunities for the opposition to defeat the government, there has been widespread silence.

The Titans will be taking Canada’s favourite sport to the international stage this Spring Break, as the team is set to travel to Slovakia, a country located in Central Europe.
From February 21 to March 3, the team will be visiting this part of the world to play hockey games with local teams, minister and enjoy sightseeing.
This trip first took place in 2003 when head coach Chuck Macknee teamed up with Athletes in Action to bring students to Slovakia. Macknee said now would be a good time to return.

The Christian church has long meddled in the affairs of state and government. Unfortunately, this meddling has often been without love and grace; at best, it has been detached, at worst, hateful. It’s time to change. The church doesn’t belong in politics, legislating morality. The church needs to love.
Mike Huckabee – Baptist minister, close friend of conservative powerbroker James Dobson and candidate for the U.S. presidency – recently made comments saying that same sex marriage could be compared to pedophilia and bestiality. This led the interviewer to ask him if his goal was to “bring the Constitution into strict conformity with the Bible.”

The Spartans Men’s Volleyball team was at home over the weekend and split two games with the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds. After suffering a tough 3-2 loss to the night earlier, the Spartans bounced back with a 3-2 win of their own. With the victory, the Spartans clinched the 2008 playoffs, and can now finish no worse than seventh place.
