TWU’s “on-campus commuters,” known as Northwest Building residents, had something to look forward to besides the Cog upon arriving on campus this year. Every Northwest resident will receive a free iPod Mini from the housing department to acknowledge the inconvenience residents face while living with scaffolding around their building.
Northwest is undergoing what Executive Assistant Glen Forrester refers to as an envelope repair. The exterior coating of the building was stripped off during the summer and new windows were put in. A new exterior will be added with a rain screen system to address what Forrester calls “leaky condo” syndrome. The project is scheduled to be completed by January 1. Meanwhile, Northwest residents must live with construction noise outside their windows.

Student Council Executive and Mars’ Hill Senior Editors were not allowed to move onto campus for Pre-SLO Week this year.
Students James Moes, Norman Van Eeden Petersman, Elaine West, Matthew Jenkins, Sarah Weigum, and Zach Bulick had to arrange alternative accommodations because of this decision made by Student Life.
Students were surprised by this decision because Pre-SLO, which is the week before Student Leadership Orientation Week (SLO Week), is an annual event. TWUSA Bylaws stipulate that Executive and Student Media Representatives must attend Pre-SLO.

“There is always, always parking at Fosmark,” said Kim Martens, of Security and Parking Services, in response to allegations of a parking shortage on the Trinity Western University campus. These complaints have arisen from the recent changes made to parking procedures, as the university searches for a solution to “squabbles between commuters and residents,” said Paul Johnston, Director of Campus Services.
“What would happen,” Johnston explains, “is that a resident would leave the resident lot, and a commuter would rush in, perhaps late for class, and park in the nearest spot. The resident would come back, find no spot, and park in the commuter lot. Both students would get tickets, and both would be ticked off.”

“I see students as complex and vulnerable people. They’ve had losses and obstacles to overcome, and I want to engage them, not just see them as objects in the chair.”

MONTREAL (CUP) — After an unsuccessful search for an abortion support group in Montreal, a McGill student is starting one.
Agathe Gramet-Kedzior has created the Women’s Abortion Support Group after she found out that no such group existed in Montreal where she had an abortion.
“They basically thought I was a crazy person,” she said of the abortion clinic staff.
She feels that the creation of an abortion support group is important because it will allow women to talk about their experiences after a very difficult emotional period and help reduce possible long-term effects of having an abortion, such as chronic depression.

Student Council lost two members over the summer. Vice President of Student Relations Jeff Dunkin and Events Assistant Linda Bland informed council in August that they would be leaving TWU.
“It was unfortunate to have one of our Executive members leave - especially a member with two years of experience on TWUSA,” said President James Moes. “Linda Bland was organized, hardworking and her dynamic with the Events team will be missed.”
Student Council has hired freshman Leigh Boyle to fill the position of Events Assistant.
