Budding entrepreneur and Trinity Western University student Matthew Pasiuk isn’t waiting until he has his degree to get involved in business – he’s doing it right now, both at TWU and around the world.
In his time at TWU so far, Pasiuk has been a part of the Student Business Association (SBA) as its freshmen representative and is currently its executive Vice President. He has also acted as the business representative on the TWU Student Association this year.
Pasiuk, who was born and raised in the Fraser Valley, sees opportunity in international business. His excitement for the possibilities of business overseas was sparked when he went on TWU’s Kenya Travel Study last summer.

Following the release of Trinity Western University’s new 10-year strategic plan two weeks ago, President Dr. Jonathan Raymond is seeking the input of all sectors across campus to finalize the document.
“We’re trying to discern what is God’s vision for the university,” Raymond noted in an interview with Mars’ Hill. “My job is to frame the exercise and let people get their fingerprints onto it.”
Raymond has already held one meeting with faculty and another with a mix of faculty and staff last week. Overall, the president will host six or seven meetings, including one for students at the end of March or beginning of April.

A Trinity Western University student experienced firsthand the Lower Mainland’s high car theft rates recently when his car was stolen from the parking lot of a local hockey arena.
Third year Brady Cook came out from watching a hockey game at Langley’s Twin Rinks Arena a few weeks ago to find his 1997 Plymouth Neon missing. After checking that it wasn’t a practical joke, the business student called the police, only to be told two days later that his car had been torched.
Cook, who is from Lynden, Washington, said he wasn’t surprised by the news.

TWU hires consultants to help with H2O issue
One month after a water advisory was first issued at Trinity Western University, operations consultant Marilyn Crone said the problem of higher than normal levels of arsenic in the school’s water source is yet to be tackled.
In an email to Mars’ Hill, Crone remarked that TWU is currently looking to an outside consultant for help with the issue.
“We are receiving external consulting expertise to make sure that our intermediate and long-term options are optimal in terms of effectiveness in providing safe water with a better taste, and at the best price,” Crone noted.

Vancouver students rally for education reform
VANCOUVER (CUP) – Despite a downpour of rain, Vancouver’s Day of Action was in full swing on Feb. 7. Organized by the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS), the event was staged to campaign for the federal government to reduce tuition fees by 10 per cent, increase funding for post-secondary education, give grants rather than loans, and reinstate free college-based secondary education for adults.
Students raised “Reduce Student Fees” signs, and used Kraft Dinner boxes as noisemakers. Enormous papier-mâché heads of Steven Harper and other government officials with embellishments such as devil’s horns were flaunted.

What is “academia?” Perhaps the answer to this question may depend on who is being asked. One definition I found is, “the milieu or interests of a university, college, or academy.”
Within the context of my studies here at Trinity Western University I prefer a more specific definition, something along the lines of, “the realm where the life of the mind and that of the heart intersect.” It is with this personal definition in mind that I begin my confession.
