I am writing to express my appreciation for the candid article on student discipline as currently practiced by Student Life at Trinity Western University. I am an employee at TWU and this association prevents me from signing this letter. However, I hope it will be printed as evidence of at least one employee who is appalled at current student discipline “procedures.” The examples outlined in your article should alarm and galvanize students (and hopefully faculty and staff ) to lobby vocally and effectively for change. Public post-secondary institutions in BC deal with student discipline matters in an open, consistent manner. Policies and procedures are clearly described in calendars and on websites and include student input and involvement. Student Life – are you listening?

A problem I had with IDIS 102 was that I understood the “difficult” wording, I understood what they were trying to say, and that is what disturbed me. The wording really wasn’t too difficult in the coursepack; the problem was that definitions were being tampered with. But that was just the text. The basic idea of the class seemed a bit sketchy to me.

When President Snider announced at a faculty meeting that Dr. Dennis Jameson would be offered another continuing contract as Trinity Western University’s Academic Vice President, the faculty gave Jameson a prolonged standing ovation.

“In the moment, I think it came as a surprise,” said Jameson, who is in his sixth year at TWU. “I was humbled
. . . [and] a little embarrassed.” Jameson’s new contract will keep him here for another two years.

In his corner office in the Stanley Nelson Center, two pictures of Harley Davidson motorcycles hang on the wall, reflecting Jameson’s lifelong passion for building and riding motorcycles. He says he “loves” riding motorcycles because it allows him to be “absolutely alone” and “exposed to the elements.”

Twenty-one Canadian women and twenty-two American men participated in two late-night practices before suiting up for Trinity Western University’s annual Canadian-American hockey game on Friday, March 18. Players were chosen after beating out their compatriots by standing in a line-up that began at 11:30 the night before to pen their name on a list at 8am.

The festivities began with a light show, a prayer by Dr. Snider, and the singing of both countries’ anthems. Third-year Dan Church, who sang “The Star-Spangled Banner,” commented, “I was a little hurt that my mic didn’t work. I wonder if maybe it was an intentional act, but I feel like I can overcome.”
