Buyers’ guide to Langley
Value Village
5666 Glover Road, Langley
Most have probably heard of Value Village by now, so for the sake of time the experience can be summed up simply: secondhand goods at moderate to low prices. However, we will give a glimpse into some of the specifics of what this particular avenue of used goods does have to offer. One thing that most students have discovered is Value Village is a great place to acquire cheap furniture. In fact, nearly every piece of student furniture has found its beginnings here. Also, this thrifty store is famous for the 50 per cent off sale which happens at the beginning of fall and in the spring time. Buyers beware: this particular Value Village has a reputation for overpricing items, so shop with a keen eye.
McFrugals
5-20555 56 Avenue, Langley
This little gem is home to a plethora of inexpensive goods. Whether it is cheap mac ‘n’ cheese or random party supplies you probably thought didn’t exist, McFrugals has it all. Don’t be intimidated by the clutter: this just means that they are overflowing with delectable goods at low prices. One avenue of interest for candy lovers is “Babol.” This is the ultimate chewing gum that rips off Bubblicious, but with 60 per cent less flavour. Don’t be frightened though: many people have found the taste of Babol both delicious and nutritious, and for only two dollars for 100 pieces you really can’t go wrong.
Liquidation World
20500 Logan Avenue, Langley
Much in the same vein as McFrugals, Liquidation World carries a wide variety of cheap stuff. While they may not always be as well stocked as McFrugals, it remains a worthy location in its own right. Sunglasses, peanut sauce, salad dressing, organic sugar and balloons are only some of the items one can purchase with prices that would drive even the greatest of penny pinchers to pay up. Also for one’s convenience, the Langley Central Bus Station is located nearby, so it is literally a hop, skip and a jump away to the savings of a lifetime. Buyers beware: many items for sale often will not be there on repeat visits.
Langley Farm Market
512-19705 Fraser Highway, Langley
For those unwilling to succumb to scurvy, there is the Langley Farm Market for all your produce needs. While there are several farmers’ markets located throughout Langley, this is one of the best. With a good variety of organic and non-organic choices, the Langley Farm Market is great hub of activity nestled right next to a Rogers Video, a Red Robin and two Starbucks. The prices fit nicely into any students’ budget. There is even a section with “near expiry” produce for even more savings. Lastly, when/if one should lose interest in the veggies, the Willowbrook Mall is next door for all of one’s overpriced stylistic needs.
