Mars’ Hill is sad to announce that Tom Hunt, due to his current position on parliament hill, is unable to blog for us this year. So joining our team instead is Toph Beach.

Beach is from San Jose, California, and insists that his loyalties are still strong, despite many years of hockey defeats. He is currently in his fourth year of the philosophy honours program, and wishes to pursue graduate studies in philosophy with the ultimate goal of a PhD.

Blogging will not be the only extracurricular activity Beach takes on this year, as he is also a McMillan apartment rep. Beach spent the last two years as an RA, and says he is continually drawn to student leadership because “I absolutely love living with other people, getting to know them, the excitement of dorm life, and the chill ethos of apartments. Working in the residence programs has helped me become a more outgoing and friendly person.” He cites one of his favorite memories of student leadership as “a dorm meeting in which we filled up spray bottles with water and food coloring, and graffitied the snow-covered campus. It was a great time goofing off with a bunch of really cool guys.”

As to what he wants to blog about, Beach says “I want to write about philosophy (especially ethics, social and political philosophy, and philosophy of religion), theology, literature, poetry, and most importantly, what Christianity has to do with our lives. My interests are broad, but thanks to analytic philosophy I’m developing a narrow focus, so I want to really get at the heart of these issues. I hope that others join me in discussion and we can be turned towards Christ through thoughtful and humble consideration of these important ideas.”
