Room for Expansion
Recently, Mars’ Hill had the chance to chat with Glen Forrester, the Executive Assistant to the President, about the future potential of the 57 acres of property that Trinity Western University owns across Glover Road. While the property is still in the exploratory stages of development, Forrester laid out some of the currently discussed possibilities for expansion. As the university moves forward, the overarching goal is to try to take into account the needs of the school, as well as the needs of the surrounding community.
Because the property is currently within the agricultural land reserve, TWU is seeking someone to represent the school in acquiring permits for zoning and construction. Forrester also said that the Langley municipality is interested in developing the land surrounding TWU with residential and commercial intent. This would greatly affect what the university does with the property.
Some of the university’s current ideas involve constructing more resident housing for students, research facilities for professors and companies, buildings for the graduate program, or a sports complex for the university as well as the community.
While TWU is optimistic that progress is within reach, a realistic timeframe for completion lies anywhere between five to ten years, but finalized plans will not be available for another two to three years. Despite this, Forrester hopes that the acreage will lay a solid groundwork for the future betterment of the school and of the community at large.
