My friend describes his Skytrain commute: “I switch from music to my weekly podcasts: This American Life, the Vinyl Café, the Economist, BBC’s All Things Considered.”

He is one of the 27 per cent of internet users between the ages of 18 and 29 who regularly download podcasts. The Pew Research Center found a seven per cent increase in podcast downloads between 2006 and 2008.

There are podcasts available in every genre, from news talk to songs of the day to stand-up comedy. Podcastalley.com – a podcast directory – currently has 56,000 podcasts catalogued, with over three million episodes. With such a wide variety of podcasts to subscribe to, there’s bound to be something out there for everyone.

In addition to those listed above, here are a few Mars’ Hill-approved podcasts: Thenewbalearic.com, CBC Radio’s DNTO, Whistlehum.com, KEXP’s song of the day, Radiozero.ca and Too Beautiful To Live with Luke Burbank.
