Franz Ferdinand - You could have it so much better

From the very beginning, Franz Ferdinand agreed one of their key goals was to make music that girls could dance to. And with their sophomore release they are continuing to do just that. Released on October 4 in North America, You Could Have It So Much Better is another absolutely smashing album that debuted at #8 in the States and #1 in the UK.

One of the great things about this Scottish band is that they aren’t afraid to step out of the ring of conformity that is so prevalent in today’s rock world. Many bands choose to play it safe by releasing a second album mirroring their first. Franz Ferdinand’s album, by contrast, is filled with tracks boasting a number of different styles; you can expect anything from 80s-influenced rock to something with a more frenetic pace and even some slower ballads, which is something fresh. Alex Kapranos, the lead singer for the band, said that one of his favourite things about the new album is the addition of some slower songs, particularly “Eleanor Put Your Boots On.” This song incidentally seems to echo the sound of another rather popular rock band from the United Kingdom; perhaps you’ve heard of them…they’re called the Beatles.

Some other tracks to give a listen to: “Do You Want To,” the first single from the album (follows closely in the footsteps of its predecessor “Take Me Out” in terms of breathtaking excitement and sheer energy); “Fade Together” (one of the aforementioned slower songs with lyrics that speak to any student as things begin to get crazy, i.e. “let’s get away/come on let’s make a get-away”); and “This Boy.”

Now you go...

Got something to say?
