Fraser Residents Get Short-Changed
April 14, 2006
For Trinity Western University residents in Fraser Hall, trying to find time to do laundry on the weekends can be difficult. Students report that every weekend, machines are stuffed full with soapsuds and dirty clothes, due to limited number of washers and dryers available.
A lack of change machines adds to the problem. When Lauren Thompson went to the change machine in the Lower Cafeteria, she received forty cents worth of nickels and a Euro instead of the loonies she expected. She wishes the university would put change machines in the laundry rooms.
“It is such a pain trying to find loonies,” said third year Fraser resident Kelsey Miller. “The Front Desk, [and the] cashiers at Sodexho aren’t allowing us to exchange bills, and the washers and dryers don’t take quarters like they say they do.”
Brad Wallbank, manager of housing services, said there should not be a lack of change machines; students just might not know where they are. The two campus machines are located in the Northwest laundry room and near the Lower Cafeteria.
“All buildings have the right amount of washers and driers to the right student ratios,” said Wallbank. Only McMillan lacks proper laundry facilities; it houses one washer and drier for every 24 students. Wallbank suggests that Fraser residents do their laundry not only on weekends, but during the week, so the laundry room can be freed up for others to do their laundry. He said that TWU has no plans to add any washers and dryers to the residence halls, nor do they plan to put a change machine in Fraser.

Correction:
I actually received 39 nickels and 1 euro from the soda machines in Fraser Lounge, not the change machine in Douglas.
