A God like Vegas
Thousands of people roll into Vegas to strike it rich. They put money into a machine in hopes to receive more out, they lay their chips on the table attempting to double them, and they shoot the dice down the craps table, taking ashot at luck.
Have we been treating God like a slot machine, black jack table or lucky dice? Do we give God our tithes, whether it is money or time, and expect to receive more out of him? When we lay our prayers on his table, do we expect them to be answered according to our selfish desires? When we throw our troubles at God, do we reduce his great blessings to luck?
When it comes to our money, there exists a very thin line between generous giving, obligatory giving, and self-centered giving. Giving so that others may see is an epoch attitude of self-righteousness that begs to be examined. When we give our time to ministries, bible studies or other spiritual quests, it must not be with the intention of boosting our resume or showing
others what we are capable of.
When we lay our prayers on God’s table, we must ask that his will be done, not ours. We must remember others in our prayers, so that our focus is not always on ourselves. The next time we give our burdens to God and he grants us relief, we must remember to give him the glory and not degrade him by calling it luck.
Most of all, we must not expect to receive when we give our money or our time. When we have the opportunity to receive, we should do so with a humble heart, celebrating and rejoicing in the great blessings of the Lord.
Vegas may be the city that never sleeps, but God is the giver that never stops.
To God be the glory.
