Dear Mars’ Love,
I am interested in a fickle girl. One moment I feel like we are making progress towards a relationship and then I suddenly feel like I’ve been shut down. I don’t understand! Is it even worth sticking around?

Dear Sir,

I am honoured that you would seek my humble advice. Though I would insist that you drink life to the lees as this stage of your love blossoms, I understand your distress. It seems that the margin of hope fades the more it is approached.

If what you speak of is true love, then faith and unfaith cannot be equal powers. The loved lady must speak her mind, and speak it soon. She must come to trust you completely and speak of the feelings pertaining to you or else you must let your heart-longing go, for it is not worth keeping.

Like a little rift within the lute will little by little make the music mute, so will the beauty of your friendship become bare if it is not spoken of. Say to her, “Darling you must be consistent if you desire love, or being a fool stay quiet and I shall move away.”

Do not let yourself pause from life, for you will rust unburnished, you will not shine with use. Follow this girl like a sinking star, but only as long as she too longs to be followed. At the end of this great adventure remember that it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.
