LLC Highlighted in Upcoming Documentary

Trinity Western University’s Laurentian Leadership Centre has been taking students deep into the core of Canada’s politics for five years. Now, the LLC will be receiving national attention of its own. On March 11 and 12, independent film company 90th Parallel filmed the extension campus for a documentary on the “GenNext” movement and how they are sparking a reformation in Canada.

Kevin Newman, anchor of Global National, interviewed various students and program director Dr. Janet Epp Buckingham.

Filmmakers also taped a class and some informal discussions.

“I think they chose the LLC as the ‘intellectual’ cross-section of young evangelical Christians,” said Tyler Chamberlain, who is attending the LLC this spring. “They were interested mainly in evangelical attitudes towards politics.”

“The LLC is kind of a meeting point between church and state,” said Craig Ketchum, another of the interviewed students. “Places like this have a part to play in what sort of involvement people of faith have in the secular public political arena,” he added.

“Kevin was very conversational and easy-going,” assured Ketchum. He and the others interviewed were able to express opinions on everything from the Christian role in Ottawa to hot political issues.

The documentary is set to air on Global this coming fall.
