Housemates scavenged the $100 prize
The first Mars’ Hill issue of the year offered a prize of $100 to the first person who could hunt down the cash hidden around campus, and five housemates deserving won.
Led by Simon Steunenberg, the group of guys, including Steve Giudici, Jamieson Brooks, Tyler Rienas, and Justin Baerg, were sitting around the night the issue was released and decided they should try to find the clues. Each clue told where to find the next and soon they had all nine.
The last clue divulged that the money was in fact with Patti White in the Student Life Office, but they reached this conclusion after business hours. “We tried Google-ing her” the group shared, but she was unlisted. After finding her husband listed in a church directory online, at 11 p.m. that night, Steunenberg called her house and asked for the money. White, amused by their dedication, agreed to meet them in the office the next morning to give them their prize.
But the next morning, to White’s surprise, there was another student waiting to claim the cash. She determined the housemates deserved the win as they technically reached her first. And just like that, five guys were $100 richer. The group decided to buy a TV for their house, though their winnings didn’t fully pay for the one they had their eye on. “We got a 32” LG.” Keep reading Mars’ Hill and marshillonline.com for more contests and prizes.
