Blood Drive Turnout Dissapoints
A recent Trinity Western University blood drive, held January 24, saw a total of two people participate. Posters advertising the drive arrived after the event took place, leaving the TWUSA monthly poster as the only remaining notification. Organizers believe this lack of awareness led to the disappointing turnout.
“I think people will be interested if they know about it,” said Matthew Splinter, Natural Science Rep and organizer of the blood drive. “The specified time is difficult for people to make sometimes, but last semester we got eight people out.” He believes participation will likely increase as more students become aware of the opportunity.
“It’s an easy way to give back,” said blood drive participant Jennifer DeWeerd, “and it’s not as scary as people think it is.”
TWUSA has scheduled the next blood drive for Tuesday, February 21. Students can sign up in the TWUSA office. A shuttle between TWU and Murrayville Hall, the blood donation location, will be provided for all participating students. Another blood drive will take place in March.
