Construction to Douglas Centre
Some of you might have noticed — or have even been woken up by — the on-going construction to Douglas Centre.
The idea of the project first started when the age and condition of the area with the out-jutted staircase outside of the lower cafeteria came into discussion. “The interior skin was getting old and wet,” said Paul Johnston, Director of Campus Services.
He went on to say that it started as a small idea to simply improve that area of Douglas Centre, but when construction started and they found that there was more damage than they thought, they realized that it was a good decision to make the renovation before the area became more significantly compromised by its condition.
The staircase will be coming off altogether, and the outside will be completely redesigned; access to the West Coast Collegium and Wellness Centre will be primarily from the TWUSA office area from now on.
The project started approximately a week before school, and Johnston is hoping that it will be done in a few weeks. “We are waiting for the new design drawings so we can continue,” he said. “It will look and feel much better … it will add a little more class to that area.”
