Grad requirements to change for class of 2012
Trinity Western University has changed the graduation requirements from allowing six outstanding credits, the equivalent of two classes, to all credits completed in order to partake in graduation ceremonies.
This change in requirements is being implemented for the class of 2012. The University Senate is implementing it next year so third year students have a chance to plan their last year accordingly, and not to have any outstanding credits come graduation time.
The issue was brought to the attention of Senate when they found, on average, 40 percent of students who participated in graduation ceremonies had outstanding credits. Through further evaluation, they found from the class of 2006, which had over 600 grads, 62 of them still havenít finished those last six credits.
Concerns arose around the issue of travel studies. If a student wants to finish their last few credits abroad in the summer but still wishes to graduate with their friends, that is no longer a possibility. But it wonít have a huge impact ó Senate found only two or three out of the 40 percent with outstanding credits planned to finish them on a travel study.
Ultimately, this means that students who wish to take a travel study must do so before fourth year or have the amount needed and simply get extra credits for their study abroad.
