Richmond Satellite Campus as good as ours
In a bid with a local anonymous business developer, Trinity Western University won out over the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University for a piece of a $1 billion development just off No. Three Road in Richmond, BC. TWU’s proposal was selected due to the explicit commitment the university had to working with the Richmond community to provide programs relevant to its members.
The project has passed three Richmond council readings and will go to a public reading on Oct. 20. “This is the last step in the municipal process,” said David Coons, a TWU development representative. “The executive director of the Richmond campus has been named; it is Andry Tjahyana,” Coons said. Tjahyana is the Director of Business Development at TWU.
Though the space is being gifted, fundraising is still in process for furnishings, equipment, academic programming and academic costs.
“This gives us tremendous exposure and puts our brand closer to Vancouver. We’ll be five minutes or less from two sky train stations.”
The centre is set to open Fall 2010.
