Spirit of Christmas 2008
For many, the Spirit of Christmas celebration at Trinity Western University signals the start of the holiday season, and what a start it was. There was plenty to do for attendees of all ages. Inside the Reimer Student Center, the young and older alike listened to book readings in the bookstore, decorated gingerbread men and woman, made Christmas cards and ornaments, and if they were lucky, received a creation by Adam the balloon sculptor. While people shopped the rows of Christmas craft and treat tables and looked at the entries for the annual tree decorating contest they were treated to the sounds of the Spirit of Christmas carolers and live stage performances. The main stage in the Atrium kept everyone entertained with a variety of performances from traditional to extraordinary.
Outside was also bustling with activity. Horse-drawn carriage rides took visitors around the decorated campus, and animal lovers were able to hang out with goats, sheep and donkeys in the petting zoo. Though it was wet and rainy, Christmas spirits were not dampened. Crowds gathered to experience the living nativity which returned to its traditional roots with the classic narrative mixed with song.
Spirit of Christmas volunteers gave their time to hand out maps, umbrellas, hot chocolate, apple cider and popcorn to guests. They also ran booths and sound boards, read books and helped with set up and clean up of the event.
Though there was no snow this year, there was no doubt that the Spirit of Christmas was in the air.
