TWUSA seeks candidates for next year’s Council

On Thursday TWUSA will be hosting an All Candidates Meeting, for all Trinity Western students seeking to run for positions on TWUSA’s Executive Council.

The meeting, which is open to all students and mandatory for any student planning to run for election on TWUSA’s Executive Council, will be occurring at 5:00 p.m. in the TWUSA office. Jason Brandl, who is chairing the meeting, is hoping to draw passionate students that want to improve the university to next year’s TWUSA council.

“This meeting will answer any questions for students interested in running for executive positions, and to go over election guidelines,” says Brandl.

TWUSA’s Executive Council is comprised of seven positions, five of which are elected, with the remaining two being appointed. The elected positions include President, Executive Vice President, and the Vice Presidents of Finance, Academics, and Student Relations, respectively. The Director of Internal Relations and Director of Events round out the two appointed positions.

Campaigning will start immediately following the meeting, when the likes of flyers and posters will surface around campus, along with whatever other creative means candidates come up with to campaign for themselves.

Campaigning will culminate with each candidate giving a speech at chapel on Feb. 9. Immediately following chapel, online polls will open for the remainder of the day for students to vote in TWUSA’s Executive election.

“TWUSA draws students who are passionate, and TWUSA works well because those individuals have the freedom to pursue any topic they want. As long as they’re passionate about improving the university – that’s the most important thing.”

For students who are successfully elected, there will be a healthy reward awaiting them. TWUSA’s President is paid $5,000, with the rest of the Executive Council being rewarded $4,500 each over the course of the school year.

A meeting for the remaining positions on TWUSA’s council will be on Feb. 11 at 5:00 p.m. in the TWUSA office, with campaigns to follow. Speeches at chapel and online polls will happen on Feb. 16 for the remaining positions.
