Upgrades in Caf transform area into lounge

If you have started to notice the construction happening in the cafeteria, be prepared for a real treat.

With a new year starting, ideas for the cafeteria’s appearance, which were planned from the fall, are finally being put into action. The renovations will offer a new comfortable seating area for students and it is expected to be a new hang out spot on campus. The entire project will take nearly a month to complete, with the target of completion being just prior to the opening of the Olympic Winter Games.
“The money Sodexo gives goes back into food services,” said Erin MacLean, catering manager at Trinity Western University. MacLean also said that the money for the improvements came from several areas, including cafeteria food sales.

“We’re doing this for the students,” said Chris Fox, director of food services at Trinity Western University. “One of the reasons for [the renovations] was that that area wasn’t really utilised that much and it would make a nicer area for a lounge.” For Sodexo, it is their way of giving back to TWU.

Once renovations are finished, the new space will reveal some perks. The overall design will include a 72 inch television, soft lounge seating, more internet outlets and a fireplace.

In the future, Fox has plans of giving a new look to the rest of the cafeteria, but for now, he says, “we want [students] to feel comfortable.”
