MBA program a welcome addition to Grad studies
Next August will mark the beginning of the brand new Master of Business Administration program at Trinity Western University. The Ministry of Advanced Education approved this decision on July 31, officially beginning one of Canada’s few faith-based MBA programs.
“An MBA program is the obvious and natural extension of TWU’s business program,” said Tyler Douglas, one of TWU’s many business alumni, “and [is] invaluable to any business oriented person who strongly identifies with the mission of the institution.”
Two streams will be featured in the new program. The first is an entrepreneurship and innovation stream, which is designed for students interested in starting or growing small businesses. The second is a management of non-profit and charitable organizations stream.
This is one of few such programs in Canada, adding a unique draw for the fledgling program. The program will be directed by Dr. Mark Lee, former president of Lakeland College, who was brought in to help with starting the new program. It will target mid-career professionals and take 22 months to complete. Like many other TWU grad programs, classes will be a mix of in-class and on-line courses, allowing students to continue in their current professions.
Vice President leaves one campus for another
Trinity Western University Executive Vice President Guy Saffold has recently taken a position at Campus Crusade for Christ (CCC), ending his career of 28 years at TWU.
Looking back at a time when TWU was Trinity Western College, with just 504 students, Saffold said it’s been exciting to see the school change over the years. “I’ve seen a great Christian university grow and develop before my eyes and have had a little bit of a role in helping that to happen,” Saffold wrote in a message to staff.
Over the years, Saffold took on many different roles, beginning as an admissions counselor, moving into the strategic planning department, and then ending his TWU career as the Executive Vice President.
Saffold represented the school across Canada and the U.S., as well as in 21 countries around the world.
The former TWU spokesperson said that while he dealt with a vast variety of people over the years, from professors to managers to marketers, he found one thing to be the same amongst them all.
“Although the talents and gifts are different, the commitment to love Christ and to support one another was the same,” Saffold said. “You, my friends and colleagues at TWU, have shaped my life, enriched it, and provided [me with] great rewards in serving.”
Saffold, who will be working only minutes from the TWU campus at CCC, will oversee nearly 400 ministry staff in a number of different areas, such as Athletes in Action, the Jesus Film Project, and Family Life.
