Panic at the Disco (CD Review)
October 31, 2005
This may be the catchiest thing you’ve ever heard. If Panic! At the Disco doesn’t make you tap your toes and shake your hips, then you need to check your pulse. Their infectious blend of pop dance-punk will have you hooked. Narrative lyrics, theatrical instrumentation, and melodic song structure are P!ATD’s bread and butter. Lines like “When I say shotgun, you say wedding” prove these four fellows are Las Vegas’s best kept secret. This album takes you on a journey and leaves you wondering how you were ever able to live without this band.
An especially noteworthy track is “I Write Sins, Not Tragedies.” It starts out slow and soothing, painting the picture of a groom pacing the corridors of a church and overhearing something he shouldn’t about his bride. Moral: watch your words. With titles like “The Only Difference between Martyrdom and Suicide Is Press Coverage”and “Nails for Breakfast, Tacks for Snacks,” creativity comes easily to the boys of P!ATD. With the inclusion of everything from an accordion to synthesizers to harps, their songs are as complex as their titles. I highly recommend picking up their record. -Cail Judy
