Reactions to the recent firing of Spartans Men’s head basketball coach Stan Peters, and the subsequent lawsuit, have sparked numerous opinions from within the Trinity Western University campus. But the issue has found itself at the center of attention outside the school as well, as blogs and Internet forums present public opinion on the controversy.
Canadian Hoops Talk, a forum for Canadian basketball fans, has over three pages of discussion from contributors located across the country. This incident has also been discussed on the CIS blog, among others.
Main topics covered are the way the matter was handled by the university, and questions about the mission and focus of TWU’s athletics department in light of the recent events.
“What is the first priority: Wins? Or developing godly Christian leaders?” asks one author.
Peters said he is choosing to ignore the ubiquitous public turmoil over his dismissal.
“I’ve stayed away [from media attention],” Peters said. “We’re just focused on our kids and helping them process things because it was so public.”
Now you go...
Got something to say?
