The Spartan women’s basketball team moved into sole possession of third place in the Canada West division, defeating the struggling Thompson Rivers University WolfPack twice in as many nights. Over 200 fans were out to watch Friday night’s match and witnessed an extremely close game the whole way through. TWU led TRU 34-33 at halftime, were up by three points after the third quarter, and finally wrapped up the game with a 73-68 win.
Saturday’s game was much the same as the night before. Both teams played a very back-and-forth style game, yet a dominant third-quarter by the visiting Spartans proved to be the difference. The final score of the game was 64-58 for TWU.
The two victories put the Spartans four points back of UBC and six back of first place Simon Fraser University. The Spartans challenge two teams from the Great Plains division this weekend. The 2-4 Winnipeg Wesmen are scheduled to play the Spartans on Friday, November 23, while the 3-3 Manitoba Bison test TWU on Saturday evening.
