1H claims dorm football title

As the highly coveted Serviss Cup waited patiently to be claimed on the sideline at centre field, two worthy teams battled to the bitter end.
Both finalists, 3H and 1H, represented by their respective RA team captains, Daniel Gonzalez and James Baturin, came ready to play with plenty of guys fired up, seemingly unaware of the heavy rains and near zero temperatures. The victor of this game would mark the first time an underclassman dorm has won the football championships since 2003, its inaugural year, where 2/3 Upper won.

Right from the outset, the game had ‘instant classic’ written all over it. Both teams scored on their first possessions. Both failed on their converts, as well, leaving the game knotted at 6-6. For the rest of the game, defence was the story, as the heavy rain led to numerous interceptions, causing a number of 4th down turnovers.

With only five plays remaining in regulation time, 1H had the ball on their side of the field when quarterback Baturin threw a deep pass that was completed and had 1H knocking on the door of the end zone. After being shutout of the end zone two plays in a row, Baturin threw another interception, this time in the end zone, as Judson Goodwin nabbed his second pick of the game. The subsequent hail-mary by 3H quarterback Bowen Tenhove on the last play of regulation fell incomplete, sending the game to overtime.

3H started overtime with the ball, but continued to fail to get anything done offensively, being shut out of the end zone. As 1H took over on offence, the boys overloaded the left side with receivers, and Baturin took off on a quarterback draw to the right side of the formation. Baturin scampered down the right side line, all the way to pay dirt to give 1H the game, 12-6. The win by 1H gave them an undefeated season and the Serviss Cup.
