Amber’s Insight

The best feeling in the world is playing in your home gym, against your arch-rival, in front of your home crowd. Honestly when I hear the coagulation of the vivacious Spartan Faithful fans belting out the Spartan “Here we go, here we go…” song I get shivers. Our first home game in our new gym was against UBC. We didn’t fair too well last Friday night, however, we came back with our armour on and ready for battle the next night. Saturday night’s game was crazy, we played with our hearts on our sleeves and although we lost in five sets it felt like a win. We put everything on the court and also left it there with our heads held high.

Kara JVD played the game of her life, breaking Trinity Western’s record for most kills with 25. Kara’s success was a result of how unified our team was on the court. It was a fun game, but it also gave us a passion to get better in practice, so the next time we play them the outcome will be different.

Since UBC, our practices have become more intense, not because our coaches are forcing it, but rather as a team we want to strive to be our best. We recently recruited a new player- Grant Lindemulder- to help boost our team’s energy at practice. Now Grant is no ordinary player, he is completely versatile, playing every position from setter to middle and then to left side. He brings a different style to the game, not just in the way he dresses, but also in the way he plays. Our coach Ryan Hofer asked Grant to come out to the last few practices just in preparation for our game against Brandon this weekend (Ed.’s note: Amber and the girls split their two matches against Brandon).
