Roxburgh in retrospect
How did you feel the year went as a whole?
Winning again was special and it was a culmination of a hard and fulfilling season. This group of players I have with their character was rewarded by a really special experience. It is very tough to put it into words. The sentiment I feel is that the journey itself was as rewarding as the destination.
What were some of the challenges/difficulties this team has had this year?
I think it is fair to say that this more than any season had adversity that no other team I have coached has faced. We have lots of individual players that had to overcome some tough stuff that goes beyond injury and illness and touches on the personal and the emotional. You could say without over spiritualizing it that this team encountered multiple waves of spiritual warfare this year. When you are trying to do the right things and win right you are going to face
some adversity.
Are there any major changes for next year?
The team focused on the right priorities this year. We really want to challenge our players to be about something greater than themselves. We have some new recruits coming, but the foundation we have and what we are trying to do will remain
Are you planning on returning this year?
Not only do I hope to be back next year, but I hope to be back for many years to come.
Anything else you would like to say?
My highlight of the whole national tournament was when we went to an AIA staff member’s house for dinner and we were able to have a time of worship and fellowship. Our team was really blessed to focus on something greater than soccer.
The greatest goal I had for this team at the beginning of the year to go on a missions outreach project. Soccer is the by-product of what we are trying to do.
