Mew - “Panda”
Mew serves up sound with a side of hummus and fried pita chips. If this song doesn’t awaken the equestrian inside of you, you might as well pick up the new Fall Out Boy album because you are not allowed to listen to good music.
Annuals - “Brother”
I never had a brother. The Make A Wish Foundation contacted this North Carolina band and asked them to write a song about brothers; that made my greatest wish come true. It’s impossible not to desire to move mountains after listening to this song.
Do Make Say Think - “Anything For Now”
I love Do Make Say Think for four reasons: a) Their name b) The song “Anything For Now” c) If you mention the album & Yet & Yet in the presence of Jonny Hughes, his contagious laughter will immediately make you happy, and d) I love any band that has anything to do with Broken Social Scene.
Mewithoutyou - “The Dryness & The Rain”
Former Sunny Day Real Estate, Fire Theft, and now solo artist Jeremy Enigk has a few words to share with us on this track. Listen.
Magnet - “Lay Lady Lay”
This is one of the best covers ever. Magnet takes this classic Bob Dylan song and gives it a few thumps with a defibrillator. I would recommend listening to this song with somebody you love.
Explosions In The Sky - “So Long Lonesome”
The new album by Explosions is a little bit too epic. If Conan the Barbarian was remade, the album would be a strong contestant for the movie’s soundtrack. “So Long Lonesome” invites a beautiful driving piano into a post-hardcore repertoire of instruments and becomes a stunning, heartwarming ballad.
Sigur Ros - “Hoppipolla”
Every time I hear this song I imagine that I am five-years-old again, racing to the top of a lush mountain with a multitude of kindergarteners. We run off of the top of the mountain and then fly off over the ocean. It can happen if you run fast enough.
Peter, Bjorn, and John - “Young Folks”
Whistling is definitely the new keytar.
Lovedrug - Every song on the album Everything Starts Where It Ends.
If you have never done drugs before, perhaps you should try some love.
Now you go...
Got something to say?
