Taking it all off
Operation bald trades locks for loonies

At the end of September 2006, ten female Trinity Western University students will shave their heads in order to raise awareness and money for three non-profit organizations, said first-year student Monique Lyon-Summerfield, who is heading up the event.
The girls, Holly Mikesh, Erika Jacobson, Merissa Doherty, Kristina Pfiffner, Carmel Gregory, and four others who have yet to volunteer, will spend the summer raising money for the International Justice Mission, non-profit organizations Invisible Children and Watoto Child Care Ministries.
And come Fall semester, everything will come off.
“It all stemmed out of joining the Social Justice Club,” said Summerfield, adding that her reading of Micah 1:16 which says “make yourself bald and cut off your hair, because of your precious children; enlarge your baldness like an eagle . . .” spurned her into action.
“Why would I think of not doing this?” she said.
Summerfield hopes that each girl can raise $1,000 over the summer, totaling $10,000.
Friends and family have been mostly supportive, said Summerfield. However, Holly Mikesh mentioned that her father was surprised that she would do something so out of the ordinary.
The six girls who have already committed need four more girls (or guys) before the end of the year in order to reach their financial goal.

Now you go...
Got something to say?
