On Thursday, October 6, Dr. Mike Goheen kicked off this year’s LambLight lecture series with his talk entitled “The Power of the Gospel and the Renewal of Scholarship.” Goheen focused on the intersection of faith and culture, with a particular emphasis on engaging scholarship from a faith-based perspective.

The lecture also served as Goheen’s inauguration to the Geneva Chair of Reformational Worldview Studies, formerly held by Dr. Hans Boersma. Dr. Snider and other faculty members welcomed Goheen to the position at the inaugural event. A string quintet, consisting of Goheen’s four children and daughter-in-law, performed at the event.

LambLight lectures bring the perceptible abstraction of academia to a relevant, down-to-earth level. A focus of the lectures is to encourage academic dialogue and functional application of scholarship. The series features speakers from around the world who specialize in a variety of faculties.

The next LambLight lecture will be Thursday, October 27, at 7:30 p.m. Nigel Cameron will present a lecture titled, “Cloning and the Biotech Century.” The lecture will focus on the Christian response to the advancement of biological technology.

Cameron is an internationally renowned expert in the field of bioethics and biotechnology. He is the President of the Institute on Biotechnology and the Human Future, and Research Professor of Bioethics at the Illinois Institute of Technology.

On Thursday, December 1, at 7:30 pm, psychologist David G. Myers will present a LambLight lecture on happiness. His talk, “The Funds, Friends, and Faith of Happy People,” will focus on the reality of satisfaction and the scientific psychology of the modern age, specifically as it relates to “positive traits, committed relationships, and… engaged religious faith.” Myers teaches at Hope College in Holland, Michigan, and is a well-known author.
